The 2009 Armenia Chronicles: 5/8/08

Friday, May 9th, 2008

So a lot has happened over the past month since my last post. I went exploring in the front room, the floors are now level and most of the walls are now cracked. Luckily, we’ll be replacing all walls within the next month. This entry will also include several pictures of some of the exploration and renovations that have been taking place.

Since he don’t have pictures of the foundation repair as of yet, I’ve decided to include a few images of my building contributions. I took it upon myself to remove two wooden panels that seemed somewhat out of place in our front room. With some simple tools and a little elbow grease, I successfully removed the panels, revealing a pretty cool piece of the building: two built-in shelves that added to the building’s 1920s character!

The First Panel

Not sure which was more interesting: the custom shelving, or the smell.

Shelf no. 1

After I took care of the clean up the shelf looked great. Once we start on the interior, we will fully restore it!

Taking on the Second Panel

A few days after removing the first panel, my obsessive-compulsive side checked-in. I finally couldn’t take having one panel on and one panel off. Plus, I’m pretty sure I would have gone crazy if I didn’t see what was behind this wall.

Panel Pry-ing

This panel was a bit more stingy. I had to chissle away most of the wood - but it’s fun getting your hands dirty around the office once in a while.

Sneak Peak

Here’s a pretty cool shot taken by Dave that came out great. I especially like that a shard from the panel remained in the foreground. That’s a plastic toy-horse on the shelf that’s obviously been there for a while.

Stay posted - more picture, adventures and updates are coming soon!

The 2009 Armenia Chronicles: 4/10/08

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

So it’s Thursday, April 10 and we’re “officially” in our new office. None of the walls have paint, the furniture is piled in the back room and the floors all slope to my left. Whenever I need to find a stapler, some cat-5 cables or the coffee maker, I find myself fumbling through boxes in the nook that will eventually be our breakroom.

It’s not all bad, though. We have a cozy setup the includes a few desks in the front room where we all work. We have the basics of a working office, yet, it doesn’t really seem like an office. Wires everywhere, folder boxes stacked to the ceiling and random, hanging whiteboards have become the norm here while we finish up the construction.

It’s kind of fun working in the same room with the rest of the crew. It makes for a lot of great conversation and stirs up plenty of great jokes. There’s a great Cuban place three lots over that we’ve been to nearly every day. Great food, great people and highly convenient. If you’re ever in West Tampa around lunch time, stop by Castillo’s on Armenia.

We’re supposed to have the foundation repaired in the next few weeks, which I am especially happy about. Constantly rolling left has tempted me to take the wheels off of this roller chair. Once that is finished, we are going to drywall the entire interior. Hopefully we will have these two jobs complete by June.

There are many more interesting design projects coming in the future. We are looking into flooring, custom shelving and even a custom conference table. So far ideas for the table include a fish tank and a custom game table.

Lots more to come. The word that keeps getting thrown around here lately is: Potential. We’re all really excited to see this place in 6 months from now. Check back for another update soon!
